Help Coin Acceptor chatters when plugged in!

Foamy:
I have a 1960 circa Dr Pepper machine with a Coin Acceptor Inc St. Louis Mo (PP9800-807?) that chatters when power is applied.  It appears that there is some sort of a drum and cam switch that keeps turning and puts into some sort of a loop.  Any Ideas?
