Ideal Machine Timeline (1930s–1970s)

Ideal coolers are some of the most iconic horizontal “slider” style Coca-Cola machines. They weren’t upright venders like Vendo, Cavalier, or Westinghouse, but long, top-loading coolers where you slid a bottle along a rack after dropping in a coin.

Ideal 55
Early horizontal chest cooler with coin slot. Held 55 bottles.

1937
Ideal 70
Larger slider model, 70-bottle capacity. Pre-WWII favorite.

1948
Ideal 85
Post-war slider cooler, streamlined design. 85-bottle capacity.

1950
Ideal 55 Slider
Classic “slider” cooler. Bottles slid along rails after coin deposit.

1952
Ideal 70 Slider
One of the most popular Ideal models. Collectible for its bright Coca-Cola script.

1955
Ideal 85 Slider
Expanded 85-bottle slider. Found in diners and service stations.

1958
Ideal 300
Massive capacity chest cooler. Designed for supermarkets.

1960s
Ideal H-Series
Final generation horizontal sliders before upright machines dominated.

1970s
Ideal Chest Coolers (Generic)
Later Ideal-branded coolers, some adapted for cans. Brand fades out in this decade.
